OUTLAWS
Together they went looking for one more shot at glory.
Another page to a lifelong story.
It's a game each has played since they were young.
That's how it all begun.
The years have passed since they last shared the game.
To never play again would cause their greatest shame.
Not the players they once were, this they can't deny,
for all they can do is try.
People ask why put your body through torture and pain
when you have nothing to gain.
With their heads held high
they give their reply,
Together we prepare for battle and strap on our pads
just as we always had.
Shoulder to shoulder we take the field
carrying our helmets like a warrior carries his shield.
When the play begins, follow the ball,
it won't be long before you see us all.
Between the lines it's man against man,
beat us if you can.
When the crowd is gone and the lights grow dim
we'll turn to each other with a boyish grin.
Our bodies will be bruised, beaten and battered,
none of which matters.
Because if we come up crippled or lame
we dared to play the game.
For those of you who never played it's hard to explain,
how in your soul the game remains.
So you ask why we play...not for attention or fame.
The feeling inside, simply put, we play for pride!
