Chad Jackson kicked a field goal from about 20 yards Sunday to give the Mid-Missouri Outlaws the Central Plains Football League championship.

His kick with 2 seconds left gave the Outlaws a 42-39 win over the Missouri Mustangs.

The Outlaws (8-1) built a 20-6 first-half lead, but the Mustangs closed to within 20-13 at halftime.

The game went back and forth in the second half. The Mustangs tied the score at 39 with about one minute left in the game.

The Outlaws’ running game played a key role in their victory.

“We kind of pounded the ball,” player-coach Travis Jobe said. “The offensive line — Tommy Kindle, Nate Steenburgenand those guys — opened up some big holes.”

Jobe said the matchup was like a chess match.

“Our defense switched things up,” Jobe said. “ They have such a good offense. We’d come up with one scheme, but they’d figure it out after about three plays.”

Mid-Missouri completed a season sweep of the Mustangs. The Outlaws won 32-21 April 14 at Sedalia and 40-35 on April 29 at Excelsior Springs.

The Mustangs finished the season with a 5-4 record.
