Playing football has been a part of my life for the last 22 years. Not a day goes by that I don't think about football. I think about all the touchdowns I have scored, the great blocks I have made. Playing in front of 60 thousand people with players like Corey Dillon, Cam Cleeland, Jerome Pathon, Bobb Sapp, Rashaan Shehee and Fred Coleman. To playing in front of only 300 people with David White and Mickey Beagle, Glen Staton and Phill McCoy, and Kimble Anders. It's funny how I can remember just about every down of football I have ever been on if I think hard enough. Then i think, if only I ran to this side of the field or if I would have done this or that or what if......... Believe me, I have more memories of bad plays than good.
I think it's time I hang it up. As much as it kills me and hurts me to say, I do believe i'm done. My body doesnt do the things it use to. I can't physically do the things I used to do. I guess I can go ahead and brag on myself for a sec. I think if you asked anyone that knows anything about me, they would tell you that, that little midget Danny could really play some ball. If there is anything I know, It's football. Infact, It's all I know. I'm ok with admiting that I am a "Has Been". I still have that urge to go out and hit someone or carry the ball 37 times a game. I still get that crazy look in my eye when I know i'm about to make a huge play, but my body looks at me like, are you freaking kidding me? So as hard as it is to admit it, I'm done playing ball.
I want to say just a few more things. I have played football for alot of Big Time teams and Big Time Players. I have played football in 34 States. I can honestly say I have seen it all when it comes to football. I remember every person I have ever played with. The team that has meant the most to me though is the Newton County Tigers. They were kind enough to let this old man have his last go around. It wasn't the season i hoped to of had. But it was by far the best season of my life. My children got to see there Dad play football for the last time. My wife wore a Newton County Tigers T-shirt with "Davis" on the back and a great big "29" I got to play with my childhood friend and laugh at him cause time hasn't been so nice to his body. There is not one player on my team i wouldn't do anything for. I thank everyone of you for being a part of my life. I love all you guys.
